Laboratory Equipment

LABORATORY EQUIPMENT – MEASURED QUANTITIES

Laboratory includes three sections:

SECTION ONE:
Conference and Presentations Room, equipped with audiovisual equipment.

SECTION TWO: Wind Tunnel.

EQUIPMENT

  1. Wind tunnel testing acility with two inverter driver fans for rating of supply and exhaust air terminal devices. Wind tunnel system includes flow straightener.
  2. Measurement recording software and relative PC interface.
  3. Step motor control software and relative PC interface.
  4. Direct Date Acquisition software. Acquired data is placed directly into spredsheet. Rating tables and charts are constructed without manual date entry, eliminating human errors.
  5. Personal Computer, intergrating the above operations of man-machine interface, data logging, and step motor control.
  6. Measuring Instruments, calibrated to relative Standards.
  7. Moving probe holding rack, with step motor driven, PC controlled movement in two-dimensional grid in front of the tested terminal.
  8. Special system for easy mounting of the tested air terminal device at the end of the wind tunnel.

MEASURED QUANTITIES

  • Air flow rate, as a variable to which all other quantities are related.
  • Supply air terminal device Pressure Drop
  • Exhaust air terminal device Pressure Drop
  • k Factor velocity (vk) measurement and k factor area (Ak) calculation.
  • Static and dynamic pressure.

CONFORMANCE TO STANDARDS

  • Test installations and procedures: ISO 5221, ISO 5219, ANSI/ASHRAE 70
  • General Requirements for the Competence of Laboratory: ISO/IEC 17025

SECTION THREE: Test Room

  • ROOM SIZE: Length 8,00m x Width 6,00m x Height 2,80m = 135 m³
  • EQUIPMENT
    • Two Air Handling Units for the complete coverage of air flow rates to 15000 m³/h with Inverter driver, continuously variable rpm plug fans with air flow measurement device. Each AHU is equipped with separete cooling and heating coils, water side controlled by modulating 3-way valves.
    • Duct system, acoustically lined, connecting the two AHU’s to five positions in Test Room walls and ceiling, where different types of air terminals can be connected:
      • Grilles and registers
      • Ceilling diffusers: rectangular, square, circular, high level, swirl, curved blades.
      • Linear grilles
      • Linear diffusers
      • Slots
      • Jet nozzles
    • Damper and mixing valve actuator control Software and relative PC interface.
    • Measurement recording Software and relative PC interface.
    • Step motor control Software and relative PC interface.
    • Direct Date Acquisition Software. Acquired data is placed directly into spreadsheet. Rating tables and charts are costructed without manual data entry, eliminating human errors.
    • Measuring Instruments, calibrated to relative Standards.
    • Moving probe holding rack, with step motor driven, PC controlled movement in three-dimensional grid covering the whole area of the Test Room.
    • Special system for easy mounting of the tested air terminals at the appropriate testing postitions.

    • Tests can be conducted under isothermal and non isothermal conditions.
